From post-grad days advocating for preserving historic houses of worship on the Upper West Side to actually rescuing a beleaguered upstate church herself, Landmark West! alumnus Cristiana Peña lives and loves the preservation world. She’s Zooming in to share her incredible recent experience as a featured homeowner on the new HGTV series “Who’s Afraid of a Cheap Old House?”
In the summer of 2022, Cristiana decamped New York City and closed on the historic First Church of Granville, in Washington County, NY (the colored slate capital of the world!) The process of finding herself a key-carrying homeowner was anything but a straight line, followed by the incredibly unique experience of kickstarting a restoration and renovation as part of an HGTV production. As one of the LW! “friends and family” crew, Cristiana is eager to tell us all about it–from on- and off-camera experiences to the challenges of a non-traditional property to finding a pro that shares her passion for preservation–in the hopes that others nurturing a unique old house dream will be inspired to take that leap!
