On this day, the Upper West Side’s Isaac L. Rice House was designated the Upper West Side’s seventeenth Individual Landmark.

Basketball Player Mike Miller, 2001 NBA Rookie of the Year, was born in Mitchell, SD, 

The world lost AD/DC frontman Bon Scott, who died at age 33, 

“Crazy Little Thing Called Love” by Queen was the top song in America,

ABC televised the 13th Winter Olympics, which were held in Lake Placid.  American Speed Skater Eric Helden won his record third of five gold medals at the games. 

The New York Times lead headline read: Trudeau’s Liberals Receive A Majority in Canadian Voting discussed how a former Prime Minister voted out of office took the majority of government. (This Canadian Trudeau was Pierre Elliott Trudeau)

In other news, the editors penned, Public Transit Needs Public Money lamenting that “a 50-cent ride in a subway these days actually costs more than $1” (incidentally, $1 in February of 1980 is about $3.88 today)
