Description: Rectangular four-sided stele with attached bronze medallion depicting the profile of Alfred Nobell (1833-1896) and engraved names of American Nobel laureates.

Remarks: The Nobel Monument honors  the Swedish prize’s founder, Alfred Nobel as well as recipients from the United States, whose names are added yearly . The project was the joint initiative of the Consulate General of Sweden and New York City Parks, and was underwritten by The Merck Company Foundation. The placement of the sculpture in a park named after President Theodore Roosevelt further honors the legacy of U.S. awardees as he was the country’s first recipient of a Nobel Prize.
